So we reach the end of 30 days, the month went very quickly! Thanks very much to Hannah for organising it.
I imagine it was this one, which means almost a year since the big break up (sigh)

Wow there are so many, I could write a book on the subject (Ahem!). I have it down to two but will choose
Gary Pucket and the Union Gap – Young Girl
This song could not be released in todays, scared politically correct world so it’s iconic now.
No question, this one is Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
It always reminds me of breaking up with my ex-husband.
Can I have all ove them? Every song that’s ever been heard?
Ok, today’s choice is Bruce Springsteen’s Hungry Heart.
I can imagine a good sing-along around the piano to that one
Silent Night
This one is pushing it, I learnt to play it when very young on the piano. I can probably play it now with one finger
The Osmonds – Crazy Horses
Only because it reminds me of a company do with a 1970s theme, which I obviously organised.
I have a clear vision of me and others – much older than myself- head banging to it. Yes we thought we were hilarious.
I want lots of happy songs at my funeral. I want it to be a celebration of my lovely life and for people to remember the fun times. I’ve had a great life (so far!) and I celebrate that fact every day, I’d love the funeral to represent that.
So obvioulsy there’ll be Abba’s Dancing Queen as that’s the one every one will remember me by. That should be played as they are heading off down to the pub.
But before that, I want them to hear this: (tissues at the ready)
I always meant to find the country original, as per most of Mr Keating’s tunes
Day 23 and we reach my all time favourite artist. Like Madonna, I could have put a Bryan Adams track on here almost every day.
I had all sorts of random tracks sneakily added to my wedding, which I themed Goodfellars so technically it would have been sixties music, not my favourite era. I booked the band, my ex-husband’s best mate’s based on the promised they would play Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’.
And then there was this
Bryan Adams – There Will Never Be Another Tonight
It takes 22 days to reach Lady Madonna?
Just like when I’m angry, the first thing I think of is not to put on any particular track, but this will sure help me get back on track.
Its day 21, about time for my favourite track, from my favourite band, from my favourite album. If I had to choose just one.
In reality, almost all songs make me happy, that’s why I listen to music all day long but I have chosen this as its sad, so I enjoy it more when I’m especially pleased with life. Hence it has barely left the deck in the last couple of weeks.
I don’t get angry now but in my teenage years, I remember having this loud really helped. Anyway, it’s a way of getting one of my all time top10 fave tracks into this:
Billy Idol – Rebell Yell
This is not one of my favourite artists but one of my favourite albums and the only way a Spicegirl will get mentioned here! I think the album is loaded with a variety of tunes and as with many first albums, it’s a real mix.
I haven’t managed to get Duran Duran in yet and we’re on Day 18!
Still love this track from their first album and although they have been surprising us by popping in old album tracks recently, haven’t heard this one live yet.
Night version
This one is easy, any thing by Adele.
Every hour, every day, every week for ever and ever. Except Kerrang, thank goodness for Kerrang Radio.
Hate is a strong word. When I start disliking songs it’s usually quite quickly after I hear them and most often because they are played far too much on the radio. I know this because I listen to the radio all day long.
New Years Day – U2
It’s more that I loved U2 for the first few albums – they were even one of my ‘top 5 artists’ for a time. I loved New Years Day when it came out but soon after that I went right off the band. I can tolerate them far more than Coldplay though.
This is the favourite of all my ‘theme’ songs.
I’ve thought quite a bit about this one as I think everyone knows I love a huge variety of music. I’ve looked to the extremes: hip hop, heavy metal, just heavy, opera, choral, punk and glam rock but I don’t think anything will be a revelation. I settle for out and out boy-band pop!
I love love love 5ive!
This should be added to my list of tracks that keep me going which is why it’s featured here instead of another 5ive classic, If Ya Gettin’ Down. It’s been an age since I’ve heard this stuff!
I hear this track (that they wrote) sold nearly half a million copies, wow!
First one that comes to mind is Irene Cara – Flashdance (What a Feeling)
Guilty because I don’t care for the film (never managed to get through it) but the song is one of my three ‘inspirational songs’ that make me feel I can do anything.
Hate is a very strong word but let’s go with it for Robbie Williams.
I do like this track No Regrets but it is the genius Neil Tennant from Pet Shop Boys on backing vocals so I should be forgiven. (Although I thought it was written by PSB, has their stamp all over it)
Well I have three favourite bands and Cherry Ghost probably fit in this category best.
I’ll go with 4AM because it fills me with a lovely memory of listening to it on the flight back from San Francisco after a gorgeous break. It was probably 4am UK time.
There isn’t a song that makes me fall asleep, they only serve to keep me awake, good or bad.
If I was to think of a song that was soothing it will be from the country/folk genres so I pick one of my all time favourites.
Also one of my favourite lyrics of all time.
I was going to say anything at all by Gun but truly, it’s this one.
It’s exactly 30 years old so I should know the lyrics by now.
Again, there are so many but this one popped into my head first.
Luciano Pavarotti – Nessun Dorma
It was the theme for World Cup Italia 90 but actually reminds me of a very poingant moment, during World Cup 2002, where I ducked out of a meeting at every opportune moment to check the football score with the IT boys. By the time I came out of the meeting, the game was over and Italy were knocked out by South Korea.
South Korea! I’d been driving my adored Hyandai then but vowed never to buy a Korean car again until Italy redeemed themselves. Of course I can buy one now if I like but thereafter I had a German car, for non-football reasons. (Car-free now)
I put this track on when they win or lose and there are tears whichever way. But on this day I had the CD in the car ready and remember being stuck in traffic trying to drown out my tears by having this as loud as common decency allowed. I was desperate to be at home. just distraught, not because they lost but because they lost in the second round and to S Korea.
So why Italy? It’s ironic as WC 1990 is the last time I remember really routing for England in a tournament. After that I’ve only followed Italy simply because I come from Bedford, otherwise known as Little Italy. I grew up with Italian unfluence and still have the same Italian hairdresser as I had there 25 years ago. Not that Italy are perfect, they are either magnificent or appalling, no middle ground, but I need a team to follow and have stuck with them. Of course, I keep an eye on England and will be over the moon if they ever win anything but my heart aches too much to actually love them.
Oh, I have liked opera ever since ’90 so that’s a bonus.
Just the one?
You thought it would be one about New York or my travels around America? Well there are just too many, so I pick this one because I reminds me of my home town. I heard it one day driving into Bedford, for no reason other than to see it and decided there are then it was time to move back.
All Saints – Pure Shores (You’ll have to click on link and listen to it)
I don’t feel the same way today as I did then, I fear I stayed one year too many when I moved back to Bedford for seven years. I immersed my self into the community and did everyone I could for it but Bedford kicked my butt all over town. But at least I went back and tried and it will always be home.
